Band Trips
The Crestwood High School Band has utilized Band Trips as an important learning tool in the Band Program. Trips, with School Board approval, are on an every other year cycle unless special circumstances arise (possibly an invitation to a prestigious event on a different year). The trips alternate between longer 5-7 day tours (by time and usually distance away from Cresco), and shorter trips, which are 3-4 day tours and usually within a half-day travel distance.
Purpose of Tours: To provide students with an educational, cultural, social, and enjoyable experience beyond what the classroom can offer. Performance, clinic, and/or evaluation on a national level.
Educational Value:
Goals and Objectives:
1. Performance in public venue of cultural or historical significance AND/OR performance for evaluation from nationally respected adjudicators/musicians. Performances will foster a valuable educational and musical experience consistent with the goals & philosophy of the Crestwood High School Instrumental Music Department.
2. Students will gain historical background and knowledge about the tour destination.
3. Students will gain a variety of educational, cultural, and social experiences.
4. Students will learn responsibility by raising/earning & budgeting money. Goal Setting.
5. Students will learn to live, communicate, cooperate, and work with others through coexistence with peers.
6. Students will learn patience, flexibility, and time management through schedule changes and unexpected challenges and circumstances.
7. Students will learn the mechanics and challenges of varying transportation modes.
8. Students will enjoy themselves.
How will we assess whether the goals/objectives have been met?
Assessment can be made through students’ success in performance, coexistence, meeting financial goals, and ability to manage time. Other assessment can occur through student comments, and other written or verbal feedback from students, Director, and parents.
Proposed Activities:
1. Performance for evaluation from nationally respected adjudicators/musicians AND/OR performance a in public venue of cultural or historical significance.
2. Other educational, cultural, social, and fun activities (unique to the site)
Funding: Students are to take part in available Band sponsored fundraisers to help earn money towards their trips. Remaining amounts will need to be paid for by the student/families. If, after putting strong and consistent effort into available fundraisers, there is a genuine financial hardship, contact the Band Director. No student should be excluded due to genuine financial hardship (there must also be consistent fundraising effort shown).
