The Frederick H. Little Awards are given in honor of the man who essentially created the Theatre program at Horace Mann. Mr. Little was responsible for the expansion and growing popularity of theatre at Horace Mann from the 1930’s into the 1970’s with special personal interest and skills in technical design and construction. Students recognized with the Fred Little Award exemplify the passion for and dedication to excellence in theatre which this man showed for more than 40 years.

The Woody Howard Award for Musical Theatre is named after a man who made theatre more than an academic discipline or extra-curricular activity. During his 25 years at Horace Mann, from 1990-2016, Woody forged a true community that welcomed all, supported students and challenged them to rise to each and every occasion. He inspired his students and has served as a mentor and friend to many. The Woody Howard Musical Theatre Award recognizes seniors who have repeatedly exhibited the energy, commitment and good will that helps create an ensemble cast.

The Anne MacKay Award Awards are named in honor of the woman who was the director of the theatre program from 1973-1991. She created Intermediate Acting and the Acting Seminar as well as the Playwriting class. Those receiving this award reflect the creativity, commitment and love of the theatre this remarkable teacher exhibited throughout her theatrical career.
