One effective tool for using flipped videos in your classroom is being able to hold students accountable for their learning by tracking their engagement and assessing their understanding--in other words, it’s not that you just want your students to watch a video, but you want them to interact with the content and formatively build their understanding. The quiz engine is perfect for that!
If you’ve used tools like Camtasia, EdPuzzle, H5P, etc. you’ve seen how you can “inject” questions into your lesson to check for understanding. After trying out many different tools, I’ve come to discover that the built-in Quiz in Moodle can do so much more! (The inspiration came when running a summer workshop and talking to another teacher--that’s when our best ideas come up!) This technique can also be adapted for any other LMS platforms using their native tools and has already been used successfully by other instructors (including an intrepid professor from New Zealand I connected with on FLGlobal.org)! For details, and tips on how to make this work in your classroom, see the quick start guide I wrote below!
