Being able to have class website is really handy and expected in the 21st century so that students can quickly access and find course materials. However, traditionally many classes can become a "file dump". With a little bit of know-how, you can elevate your course design skills pretty quickly and avoid the dreaded file dump and learn how to best share files and information with your students in the context of learning!
In other words, instead of saying, "here's a lab sheet kid", you can put up a short description, or add a Page, lab Quiz, or Assignment where they submit their write-up that has a few directions, graphic, or embedded video, alongside the lab sheet ("here's a lab sheet where we will be going around the hallways and measuring relative humidity--check out this video clip of a student last year who did a good job showing you how to spin the hygrometer without killing anyone!").
There are a lot of options here, on what you can do--since learning has many different contexts and can look very different for each class--so I'm actually going to write up a blog post with a few examples and ideas for everyone on how they can best share content with their students in the context of learning.
