Cultural Groups

At Hinds School we celebrate the diversity of our tamariki and our cultural heritage.

Kapa Haka

All Hinds school students participate in Kapa Haka.  Kapa Haka is an opportunity for students to experience a link to our Māori culture, Te Reo and Tikanga through Waiata and Haka (Music, Dance and Movement).

Kapa Haka provides all Hinds School students the essential element of whanaungatanga - the importance of people and connectedness, where we learn about our local area - Hekeao (Hinds).

Currently we are learning:     Pepeha o Hekeao          Pepeha - Six60        Toia Mai       Nga Iwi E         Ko Te Waipounamu     Purea Nei     Tika Tonu (haka)        To Ringa Ki Roto     Moemoea (Don't Dream It's Over)

Filipino Cultural Group

The Hinds Filipino students have the opportunity to learn the Filipino  history and culture through music, dance, food, language, games and  cultural costumes. They learn this weekly throughout the year alongside a Filipino expert bilingual support person. The students were able to share their learning through performances around the region and also with their schoolmates.

Spanish

Our senior students (years 5-8) have the opportunity to get exposed weekly to Spanish language and culture with Cecilia our in house, bi-lingual Latin American  expert.  We have a cohort across the school of Latin American children so this enables us to connect with their culture.
