As part of our lockdown review in 2020 and on-going discussions with students, whānau and as a staff we noted the need to better support the holistic child, particularly the emotional wellbeing of our tamariki. Our tamariki expressed a strong desire for wellbeing support to support them as an individual and as a learner.
We developed Ako Ora in 2021, where staff work collaboratively with students in supporting them to learn to know themselves, to proactively look after and manage their emotions, wellbeing and engagement in learning. Some to our students have asked for support in developing friendships.
Ako Ora runs during break time and during class and provides our students with numerous social skills, wellbeing skills and learning kete. Our students have loved this space. Thank you to our wonderful Teacher Aides and our Board for supporting an initiative responsive to our tamariki, staff and whanau.
