Behaviour policy introduction from the pastoral deputy headteacher
Welcome to the Highlands School behaviour policy website. Our new behaviour policy was launched in September 2020 and this website has been created as guidance for parents and carers to highlight some of the key parts of the policy.
This website does not replace the behaviour policy. The behaviour policy can be read in full by clicking here.
A list of key points from our behaviour policy are provided below.
The top 25% of students will be rewarded at the end of each half term.
School starts at 8:30am
There are 5 whole school expectations:
Follow instructions first time
Engage positively in learning
Show respect to each other and our surroundings
Move around the school safely and calmly
Be in full uniform at all times
During lessons students are expected to follow STAR and the behaviour expectations:
S - Sit up
T - Track the speaker
A - Ask and answer questions
R - Respect those around you
Mobile phones are banned on-site and should not be used at any point. On the first occurrence of mobile confiscation, the student will be issued with a 40 minute on the day detention. If the phone is confiscated before the cut off point for detention, it can be collected by the student that day, after detention.
Chewing gum is a banned item in school and students will receive a same day, 40 minute detention if they are found with this item.
Trainers of any brand or style are not permitted.
We have a daily detention system, which consists of a 40 minute detention.
A student who receives a detention before 1:40pm (12:40pm on a Wednesday) will be required to stay behind that day for a whole school detention.
A student who receives a detention after 1:40pm (12:40pm on a Wednesday) will be required to attend the whole school detention the next day.
No piercings other than one pair of studs in each ear and no jewellery, other than a religious symbol worn inside the school shirt, is permitted.
Any non-permitted jewellery seen will be confiscated and will result in a 40 minute detention.
Lanyards are now a part of our school uniform and must be worn.
Our behaviour policy motto is 'prevention before sanction' and we have a clear set of classroom and whole school expectations in line with this.
