Students must be in a full school uniform at all times, unless a reasonable adjustment has been approved by the headteacher, following a written request by parents/carers. There will be a member of staff on duty each morning conducting uniform checks. If students are not in the appropriate uniform the member of staff on duty will issue an appropriate sanction. If there is an exceptional and unavoidable reason why a student is not in the appropriate uniform, then parents/carers should email the school email address by 8.00am explaining the circumstances. Year 12 and year 13 are required to follow the sixth form dress code.
Only smart black leather (or leather look) shoes are permitted. This means that trainers, Converse, Air Force 1, trainer-style and canvas shoes are not permitted. For further clarity on permitted footwear please click here to access the uniform page on the main school website.
Coats, hoodies and any other non-uniform items or outdoor garments must not be worn in the building at any time, even at the end of the day or after a lesson just before break/ lunch time. Students not complying with these rules will be issued with concern codes, have their outdoor garments confiscated and they will have to collect the garment from reception at break/lunch/after school.
Blazer sleeves must not be rolled up.
Shirts should be fully buttoned and tucked in.
Ties must be neatly knotted.
Visible t-shirts under the white school shirt are not permitted (a non-visible, white t-shirt is permitted).
Hats and caps should not be worn, unless for religious purposes.
Only one stud is permitted in each ear.
Extreme hair styles are not permitted – this includes: extreme hair colours (only natural hair colour permitted), shaved patterns, tracks etc.
Eyebrows may not be shaved or have tracks.
Skirts must be worn of modest length, just above the knee. Very short skirts are not allowed.
Trousers must be a traditional tailored style.
Tight/stretch style trousers, chinos or jeans-style trousers are not allowed.
Subtle make up means foundation or face powder only.
Eye make-up, fake eyelashes, lipstick and lip gloss are not permitted.
Blazers may be taken off in lessons, with the teacher’s permission.
The parent/carer will be telephoned and asked to bring in the missing school uniform item. If the parent/carer is unable to do this, the student will be given the item (where available) from our spare uniform stock.
The student will have a sticker placed in their planner regarding the missing uniform item. The students should show this to their form tutor and other staff who ask them about their incorrect uniform.
The student will be issued a 40 minute daily detention for a first occurrence.
The student will be placed in the IER (internal exclusion room) for second and subsequent occurrences. The parent/carer will be asked to attend a meeting to discuss the uniform concerns.
Students who arrive at school wearing jewellery will have this confiscated and a 40 minute detention will be issued and the items will be returned after detention for the first occurrence. Repeated occurrences will be dealt with as per our rules on mobile phones.
The sixth form operates the policy that students should dress in an appropriate style for a place of study and appropriate to the work that they are doing, be that in a laboratory, in a classroom, or on a visit.
Year 12 and year 13 students are required to wear smart casual clothing, which recognises that we are a multicultural and multi-faith school.
Student should come to school dressed as follows:
smart casual trousers or skirt
shirt, blouse, polo or t-shirt
jumper or cardigan
smart jeans and smart trainers are acceptable too
The following items are not acceptable:
leisure/sports clothing such as tracksuits, or jogging pants and leggings
ripped jeans
garments carrying large designs or logos
shorts or three-quarter lengths trousers
skimpy tops and short skirts
facial piercings
headwear
extreme hair colours such as pink, green, blue
Students not dressed appropriately will be sanctioned and asked to wear an appropriate item of clothing (provided by the school) or sent home to change (as a last resort).
