At Highlands School we promote exemplary behaviour in a variety of ways, and we respond swiftly and fairly to behaviour that is not in keeping with our behaviour policy,
Our school DARE values: determination, aspiration, respect and equality are at the heart of everything we do as a school.
Whole school behaviour expectations: a focus on prevention before sanction. Our behaviour expectations are made clear and visible and staff and students are expected to know them by heart.
A focus on rewarding students: positive behaviour is rewarded through achievement points, which are recognised through emails home, assemblies, public recognition, certificates, vouchers, prize draws, reward trips and the headteacher’s breakfast.
Consistency and responsibility: all staff are held to account for consistently applying behaviour expectations.
Classroom behaviour tracking: we track student behaviour in the classroom through behaviour codes entered into the register.
Immediate responses to behaviour incidents outside of the classroom: students are issued relevant concern codes if they do not follow school expectations around the building.
Daily whole school detentions: certain behaviour incidents will be sanctioned with an on the day detention.
Early intervention strategies: students struggling to meet the school’s behaviour expectations or who need further support with wider welfare issues will be supported through the use of one or more of the following; mentoring, counselling, PSPs (pastoral support plans), WSPs (welfare support plan), behaviour contracts and behaviour reports.
