Online Testing

Student Login Information

Before setting up your first Online Assessment in Aware, it is recommended that you consult with your Grade Level or Department teachers to check the status of student online login information. Teachers are responsible for sharing Aware Online Testing login and password information. Student passwords need to be shared with students once, unless a student forgets their password or a new student enrolls. New students will need their password to be reset to the naming convention below.

Setting/Resetting student login information:

Login is the student ID#. Passwords are reset by teachers (only 1 teacher will need to do this and share the new password with the student)

      • In Aware, click on the Students tab on the left

      • Use the search bar to type the student’s name

      • Select the student. Their information will appear in the window to the right

      • Username/login is the student ID # found under the student name.

      • Passwords can be set by clicking on the Reset Password key icon. District password naming convention is FIRSTINITIALLASTINITIALstudentid#. However, some students have requested to change their passwords for security purposes and they may not follow the typical naming convention.

Step by step Online Testing - Updated look at the Online Test Proctoring features and preview the student view (7:31).

In the new test authoring interface, teachers will use the Online and Administration tabs to navigate all online testing options.

NEW Online tab: Online testing settings have been moved to a separate online tab.

    • Check your Online Testing settings to ensure the online test is toggled on (the default setting is set to ON). NEW: Set the Online Test Proctoring Controls to Teachers. The start and stop controls will be grayed out on this screen, but you will be able to access them in the Analyze Tab.

    • There is also an option to change the setting to interactive (both question and answer displayed on the same screen) or bubble sheet, if needed.

    • Online tests now have the option for browser lockdown, text to speech support, question randomization, and an embedded calculator. To find out more click here.

Administration tab: Teachers will notice two additional tabs within the Administration page to aid in assigning a test - Students and Collection.

Students tab: Under Additional Options there are five ways a student can be assigned a test. Choose which option best fits your campus:

    • Students in selected courses - select the appropriate course(s) for the test. If teachers are printing answer documents, this option will allow them to print by their rosters. Check the box next to each class that needs to take the test.

    • Students by their homeroom teachers - for each campus, select the teachers associated with that test.

    • All students in the test's grade level - if all students for an entire grade will be taking the test and the printed answer documents do not need to be organized by course or teacher, this option can be used.

    • All students at selected campuses - all students for each campus will be assigned the test for each campus that is selected. Tests are rarely made for multiple grade levels.

    • Selected teachers for printing - select the teacher associated with the test for each campus. Only the teacher will be able to print the answer documents, not administrators.

Collection tab: Teachers will use this to determine when and how the test will be administered.

    • The start and end dates determine when the test is available for students to take the test online. (The dates do not affect scanning for paper administration, but the dates need to reflect the window of dates a teacher wants to print the scantrons.) If you are having issues, check to make sure your test is set to Active not Pending.

Analyze tab: On the day of the test, teachers can access the start/stop controls and students supports from this tab. NEW

  • Click on Test Available at the top of the screen (this will only appear if your test is within the date range, set to active, and have selected Teacher for the online controls).

  • Scroll to find the name of your test, and click on the Online Test Proctoring icon to the far right of the test title (monitor and mouse icon). Once clicked, a green check mark will appear.

  • Next, click on the Online Test Proctoring tab along the top of the screen. You should now be able to see each class period.

  • If you still need to copy the login url for students in your Google Classroom, you can find it in the top right corner of the screen.

  • You can choose to Start All or Start Selected, as well as Stop All once the test is complete. Expand the class(es) and check the Select All box or check/uncheck individual students to activate the online test.

  • To turn on Student Supports, such as Text to Speech, click on the pen icon next to their name and select the support needed. You will need to do this individually for each student who needs the support.

  • There are five different statuses a student can have while taking the test:

    • not started

    • inactive - student has started but is not actively taking the test or has closed the test using "Exit Test" without submitting

    • in progress - actively taking the test

    • completed - student submitted the test and is waiting for manual grading

    • graded

  • Once the test is submitted for scoring, the responses will be visible.

*It is also strongly recommended that teachers click the Preview icon (magnifying glass) before administering their test to confirm all images, resources, and files are functioning properly.

    • Question Guide - By clicking on the Question Guide icon in the top right corner of the testing window, students will see a summary of unanswered questions, flagged questions, and answered questions. Students can click on questions numbers from this window to direct themselves back to that question.
