The Henry Hudson jazz band is an extracurricular that rehearses at night once a week, and is open to all grades. The jazz band consists of a standard big band set up. In jazz band, students have the opportunity to play the piano, guitar, bass guitar, and drum set, instruments that are not included in the concert band. Students also have the opportunity to play a different genre of music that strays from what is typically played in the concert band. Here, students have the chance to play songs that are more well known and popular. The jazz band performs at both the winter and spring concerts. For middle school students, the jazz band is a great opportunity to play harder pieces and play alongside more experienced band members. For high school students, the jazz band is a chance to enrich one’s musical understanding and better one’s talents.
