New Lingo and Words to Know!
As a middle school student, you may not have heard of the words below that we use very frequently at the high school level when it comes to advising students. We want to make sure you are coming to us familiar with these things and what they are!
Credit - This is how we measure what classes you pass or fail in high school. If you pass a class, you earn a credit (half or full depending on the type of class). If you don't pass a class, you do not earn a credit. When looking through the information above, credits are how we see who is ready for graduation and who is off track for graduation.
Transcript - Your transcript is what houses all of your information about your credits. It is the document that will be sent out to colleges, the military, etc. when you start looking to what you want to do after high school. Your transcript is very important and describes/details your four years with us in high school in terms of the classes you took, the grades you earned, the credits you earned, your class rank, etc.
GPA - This is your Grade Point Average. Your total credits get calculated together to find your GPA which is a weighted average of the quality points (see below) you earn depending on your final numeric grade in each class. Your freshman year can either make or break your GPA. It is cumulative. So, whatever you earn your freshman year travels with you all the way to graduation getting calculated in with the other classes you take each year.
