Our Curriculum

Our program is rooted in a play-based approach, especially as our philosophy is that these are "The Play Years", but over time we have blended our approach to best accommodate our ever-changing education system and better prepare our children for what's next: Kindergarten. 

Preschool Curriculum

In our Preschool classrooms, we provide each child the opportunity to grow through enrichment activities.  Classroom centers stimulate imagination so each child can investigate at his/her own rate.  There are also group activities that help the children learn together.  We offer activities to introduce and foster the growth of artistic and creative expression.

Children start learning numbers, counting, the alphabet, beginning pencil skills, color and shape names, comparative attributes, small and large motor development, eye-hand coordination, spatial awareness, music melody and rhythm.

Pre-Kindergarten/Afternoon TK Curriculum

The Pre-K/Afternoon TK program is a natural progression of learning for children who are in their final year of preschool. Kindergarten readiness skills are emphasized as well as broad investigations of nature, science, music, movement, art, cooking, and carpentry.  

Using play, games, and individual and group teaching activities, our teachers introduce:

• letter and number recognition

• pre-math skills

• phonemic awareness activities

• basic scientific, sensory, physical and aesthetic concepts

• music

• physical development

• social and practical skills that encourage independence

Weekly visits to the school library cultivates an enthusiasm for reading as well as introducing concepts of borrowing, responsibility, care for other's property and returning borrowed items as promised.  These visits, along with other interactions with the elementary school "big kids" and teachers, ease the transition into the next level of school.

Field trips to museums, performances, fire stations, grocery stores, post offices and parks are wonderful opportunities for the Pre-K child to learn about their world and how it works, in a fun and exciting way.
