Ensure our PreK-12 curriculum fosters creativity, provides opportunity for personalization, and broadens the perspective of the learner
All curriculum will be standards aligned, and vertically and horizontally integrated
PreK-12 curriculum will be a series of living documents that are accessible through multiple platforms and the subject of ongoing dialogue among educators
Continue to evaluate our current assessment system and support the development of high quality assessments that are used to inform teaching and learning
Assure that every instructional program promotes modern learning skills of:
Creative and critical thinking
Productive collaboration
Effective communication
Align all instructional practices to the needs of the modern learner (ie. relevant, transdisciplinary learning, project/problem based learning, integration of technology)
Promote and sustain professional learning cultures for educators through sharing best practices
Emphasis on modern learning skills reflected daily in learning targets presented to students
Administrators will conduct frequent informal classroom visits to provide feedback to teachers on their efforts to help students engage in:
Creative and critical thinking
Productive collaboration
Effective communication
Assure our use of time benefits student learning and promotes teacher collaboration
Every regularly scheduled collaborative opportunity (ex. Department meeting) among educators:
Is thoughtfully structured
Has a specific purpose
Results in an outcome that will promote best practice that enhances student learning
Every member of a group will leave the meeting understanding their responsibility in achieving the outcome and is committed to carrying out the responsibility
Focus professional learning on increasing the capacity of each adult to help students think critically and creatively, communicate effectively, and collaborate productively
Develop a systematic and intentional plan for all professional learning activities so that each engages our adults in modern learning and is differentiated to meet the learning needs of each staff member.
Professional learning opportunities and resources will:
Support each staff member’s growth and development
Utilize and foster staff members’ talents and skills
Include opportunities within schools, across schools, and outside of the district
Be designed to immediately impact instructional practice and student learning
Help staff members to support students as they develop skills of a modern learner
Feedback from all professional learning sessions will be collected and used to guide future learning opportunities
Use instructional technology to leverage greater learning opportunities for all students
Increase opportunities for students to engage in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) learning
Utilize technology to augment thoughtfully designed instructional practice
Provide ongoing and embedded professional learning to support our staff members in using new technology or implementing elements of STEAM in their curriculum
Increase access to technology for all learners
Incorporate our understandings of the importance of mental and emotional health and well being into our thinking as we design learning experiences and environments for all learners.
Provide all staff training and continued in Youth Mental Health First Aid and Suicide Prevention
Increase opportunities for staff to learn strategies for their own mental and emotional health and well being as well as strategies they can use with students
Continue to grow a ‘Culture of Kindness’ throughout the district
