At Boston Valley, we identify as a community of learners, understanding that we are all able to learn and grow.
The Boston Valley Learning Community is made up of students and their families, all BVS staff members, our partners in transportation, and district staff who support BVS.
At Boston Valley, we are committed to self and others as we continue to build and maintain a learning community that ensures a sense of belonging by honoring individual differences, while also recognizing that we are stronger together.
We will continue to be guided by our BVS Expectations:
I will be the best learner I can be.
I will make our learning community a great place for everyone to live and learn.
Build upon the kindness, empathy, inclusion, and sense of belonging demonstrated during shared integrated experiences between general and special education students and intentionally expand these qualities and experiences across our entire learning community.
Continued focus on strengthening a schoolwide culture of positive behavior by ensuring that all students receive explicit, developmentally appropriate instruction in the BVS Learning Community Expectations and the Zones of Regulation in order to develop the skills to understand and manage their emotions, make responsible choices, learn from mistakes, and actively participate in finding solutions when challenges arise.
All students are active participants in authentic and equitable learning experiences that are personally meaningful, with voice and choice embedded, and result in products that allow students to articulate and celebrate their learning.
Intentionally create and promote opportunities for students and staff to interact, collaborate, and develop meaningful connections across classrooms, grade levels, and educational settings.
Highlight and reinforce examples of kindness, empathy, inclusion, and positive peer relationships observed throughout the school community.
Use these shared experiences to model and encourage behaviors that can be generalized across all school settings and relationships.
Provide consistent, grade-level appropriate instruction and reinforcement of the BVS Learning Community Expectations and Zones of Regulation across all settings.
Explicitly teach students strategies for self-regulation, problem-solving, reflection, and repairing relationships.
When mistakes or behavioral challenges occur, staff will guide students through reflective conversations that emphasize learning, accountability, and student ownership in identifying solutions and determining appropriate next steps.
Design learning experiences that provide meaningful opportunities for students to exercise voice and choice in how they engage with learning and demonstrate their understanding.
Teachers will intentionally incorporate authentic tasks, relevant connections, intentional use of technology, and varied ways for students to demonstrate their learning.
Students will be provided opportunities to reflect on, articulate, share, and celebrate their growth and accomplishments.
Our evidence will be collected and documented throughout the year. It will reflect the above success criteria and be a direct result of the action steps.
