10 GOLDEN RULES OF CERAMICS {+1}
- Keep all food and electronics put away.
- Clay must be thoroughly covered with a plastic bag to keep it from drying out.
- Clay can be no thicker than your thumb.
- In order for clay to stick together it MUST be scored and slipped while clay is in the plastic or leather hard stage.
- Keep your area clean, keep clay scraps off the floor and clean tables with water and a sponge, followed by a microfiber cloth.
- Wedge clay to remove air bubbles and achieve uniform consistency.
- Trapped air can cause clay to explode. Hollow out sculptural forms and include holes in your work so air can escape.
- Don't glaze the bottom of a piece!
- Always handle your project with two hands. In other words: BE CAREFUL, it’s your hard work!
- NEVER handle another person’s work, even if it looks cool.
+1 Don’t throw clay or tools in class. It makes Ms. T very upset to see the studio and materials treated with disrespect.
