ART 7

CLASS DESCRIPTION

7th Grade Art is an art survey course where students develop skills in 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art. In addition to gaining confidence and proficiency, students will also be working with a variety of mediums including: pastels, watercolors, pencil, charcoal, acrylic paint, ink, papier-mâché and clay. Topics covered will include the Elements of Art, Principles of Design, art techniques, famous artists and popular art movements.

Projects will become more challenging as the term progresses, with every lesson building on material previously covered. This is a studio class and students are expected to use in-class time to work on assignments that follow guidelines and objectives communicated by the teacher.

CALENDAR

In addition to in-class reminders, we will use Google Calendar to keep track of assignment due dates. Every student will be added to the class's calendar. A copy of the calendar can also be accessed here.

GRADING POLICY

Trimester grades will be based on two categories: Projects and Daily Classroom Maintenance.

Projects

Each project is worth 100 points. Project descriptions and rubrics are reviewed in class. Points are broken down into the following categories:
- Craftsmanship
- Creativity
- Participation

Daily Classroom Maintenance

Students receive up to 2 points per day for contributing to the maintenance of the Art Room. Students are expected to put unfinished work in their bins at the end of class, wipe down tables, put away art supplies and push in their chairs. Tasks will be reviewed thoroughly in class.
