Application Info
The goal of The SPEDucator Project is to recognize and empower high-quality special education teachers across the state of Hawaii. Together, this group will support recruitment and retention initiatives while building community, belonging, and support. Selected participants will advance in their own professional growth and will then have the opportunity to share their knowledge with others. Together, we will build capacity and improve educational outcomes for all students with disabilities in Hawaii!

Teachers will be expected to participate in 2 online gatherings each month from November, 2020 - May, 2020.
Expectations
Our group of 15-20 special education teachers will be expected to actively participate in 1 or more activities related to each of the four pillars of the project. While we have activities planned, the speducators will be the ones to collaborate and determine the implementation of various components of this project. Can anyone say #empowerment?

2020-2021 ADMISSION RESULTS
Surprise Announcement
On November 6, 2020 we held a surprise virtual meeting to announce the 21* selected teachers as part of our first inaugural SPEDucator Project. In collaboration with administrators, we pretended to have a SPED update meeting and then surprised them with quotes from individuals who had written their recommendations to the project.
*One recipient declined the invitation, due to feeling overwhelmed and unable to fulfill the time commitment needed as part of the project.
