The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa is on a semester calendar. A few NSE schools are on a quarter calendar, which has implications for the transferability of credits.
Language
You must be proficient at the B2 level in Spanish for campuses in Puerto Rico, and in French for certain campuses in Quebec, Canada.
Host or Home Payment
Students on NSE have two choices in paying for tuition/fees:
Host Pay: Students will pay tuition/fees at the resident rate to the campus they will be attending on exchange. Here is the list of campuses available on Host pay and the estimated tuition costs.
Home Pay: Students will continue to pay their regular tuition/fees at UHM. Here is the list of campuses available on Home pay.
Since each NSE member campus determines its availability for Home and Host payment, please consult the Tuition/Fees tab on the Campus Profiles on the NSE website for the schools that you are interested in.
Chance of Placement
Consider the chance of placement for each campus you are interested in. It is highly recommended that you select at least one campus whose placement chances are “excellent” (accepts 75-99% of qualified students) or "open" (accepts 100% of qualified students). The NSE application will allow you to select multiple campuses in order of preference.
Course Availability on Exchange
Check the Academics tab on the Campus Profiles to see which courses are available, unavailable, or limited on exchange. In general, students should have registration flexibility while on exchange.
Housing
Students on NSE are responsible for securing and paying for their own housing and meals. Many campuses offer on-campus housing, but others have limited or no on-campus housing available for NSE students. Check the Room/Meals tab of the campuses you are interested in to see what their options are for housing.
