Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
Working with Damien and myself
What materials will you need for your project?
makey makey, computer, website, iPad, google drive
What is your plan to create in this project?
My plan is to use play doh and use the makey makey to make many projects like I did with Mirco-bit.
What unique qualities will your project have?
It will have us using play doh and makey makey to control and make stuff.
Snake Game Original Controls With Makey-Makey (with iMovie):
(This is the controls with the makey-makey before we made better controls with the makey-makey in the next video.)
Better Version Of The Controls With Makey-Makey (with iMovie):
(This is the better version with the makey-makey, it has a snake figure made of play doh to activate the controls, then round balls that are used for directions of the snake, instead of flat controls in the first video.)
Day 1. Added my list of 25 and planning questions, and figured out how the makey makey works.
Day 2. Continued working with the piano but added play doh. Also made a play doh piano.
Day 3. Did snake game with play doh and the makey-makey.
Better Controls Of The Snake Game:
Day 4. I made Flappy Bird controls and played Flappy Bird with the Makey Makey.
Day 5. Finished my reflection in paragraphs and edited my video or final project and added what I did better for the controls of snake game.
Using snake game and makeymakey.com, we created controls with the makey-makey because I wanted to make controls for a game then make the controls better. We made a snake out of play doh connected to earth on the makey-makey. That's what activates the controls we used for the snake game with the makey-makey. We created round and better controls that you would just have to tap, and it would work and move the direction of the button you tapped. We also created a better version of the controls because we used more cords and used all the play doh to make better looking controls.
During this process, I learned how to connect a cord to earth to make the other cords work. I learned how to use a makey-makey with snake game. I learned how to use more cords and more play doh to make the controls more effective and better looking. Another thing I learned is how to make the controls play like a piano. On my day 1, I learned how to make piano controls that would work by just a single touch. On day 4, I learned how to make flappy bird controls. I learned that I only need 2-4 cords to make flappy bird work while snake game is about 6-8 cords.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Knowledge Constructer because I used a variety of technology. The variety of technology is iPad, makey makey, and my computer. I'm a knowledge constructor because I used that variety of technology to make controls for a piano, snake game, and flappy bird. I used the iPad to record and take pictures of everything I constructed, then I used iMovie to edit all of it. I'm a knowledge constructor because I used the iPad for pictures, videos, and iMovie then I used the computer to upload all of the videos and I lastly used the makey makey to make all of my projects.
A challenge I overcame on this project was finding out how to make the controls work. I was able to do it by connecting a white cord to earth and connecting the other end to play doh. Another challenge I overcame was finding how to make the controls work correctly and faster. A challenge I overcame was making better controls for the snake game like a snake model and round controls that will help work better. Another challenge I overcame was getting the right amount of cords to make the makey makey work with my snake game project. The last challenge I overcame was learning what the makey makey is and learning to use the makey makey.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change how the main controls for the snake game look. The reason why I would change it is because I only had simple controls and not arrow shaped ones that could look like the actual controls. If I was given a chance to do this again, I would change how much I edited my video of my final project. Another thing I would change is how I could just tap my down button on accident for the snake game and it would take a few seconds to go down. Also, if I was given another chance to do this project, I would like to get different color play doh and make each control with a new color of play doh. Lastly, I would change how messy the cords were in the video and straighten them to see which cord controls which is easier.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in control design. My project connects in the Engineering Design CTE program because I engineered my makey makey to control snake game or have controls for snake game. Also, it connects to Engineering Design CTE program because I programmed controls for a piano, snake game, and flappy bird. My project connects in careers in control design because I designed controls with the makey makey and play doh. Finally, my project connects to the control designer because I designed more than one set of controls for my snake game and flappy bird.
