Daily Log
Day 1: I made my list of 10 and answered my planning questions.
Day 2: I researched how to use the embroidery machine and how to put one of my own drawings onto the machine.
Day 3: I tested out the embroiderer and made an owl that I am using as a test so I can see what I could make.
Day 4: I drew a cartoon mushroom that I will try to turn into a jef.
Day 5: I researched how to make a jef. file.
Day 6: We downloaded a platform that you can put your own drawings into and it turns it into a jef. file. We used that to turn my drawing into a jef.
Day 7: We put the jef. file onto a usb.
Day 8: We embroidered my mushroom. The white thread poked through so we are going to work on it some more.
Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working by myself.
What materials will you need for your project?
I will need an embroidery machine, thread, fabric, a drawing and a usb.
What is your plan to create in this project?
I am going to use the embroidery machine to embroider a drawing I have drawn.
What unique qualities will your project have?
The drawing is of a mushroom. I will sew it on to a backpack.
Day 3: This is the test run I did so I can see how it works.
A Challenge I Overcame
A challenge I overcame was when we were trying to convert the drawing I made into a jef. file, the platform we were using was not working. We then finally got it to work when we hit a could different buttons. We also watched a tutorial video online and it made it much easier to convert the file.
Standards the Project Tied To
The standards the project tied to were empowered learner and digital citizen. I was an empowered learner because I learned how to make the embroidery machine work even when it didn't feel like working. I was a digital citizen because I created a page on my website dedicated to this project.
Reflection
Description of Creation
I drew a picture of some mushrooms and turned it into a logo. Then I used this logo and converted it into a jef. file. Then, I used the embroidery machine to embroider my mushrooms onto a piece of fabric. I plan to put this design on a bag.
CTE and Career Connections
The CTE this connects with is Digital Multimedia. The career that connects with this is working for a design company that creates logos and other things. This is because I created my drawing into a logo and made it able to be embroidered.
What I Learned
I learned how to created my drawings into a logo and then making the logo a jef. file. I also learned that when using the embroidery machine, many things can go wrong. Embroidery machines are very temperamental and they stop and start a lot.
Things I Would do Differently
The thing I would do differently is I would like to have the white thread from the bottom to not poke through. I would also maybe make my design less detailed. This is because it took the embroidery machine a really long time to embroider it. It had about 15,000 stitches.
