Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working with Lucy and Mallory.
What materials will you need for your project?
Cardboard, tape, scissors, paint, glue, Sharpie, Tape recorder.
What is your plan to create in this project?
3d Wiener dog.
What unique qualities will your project have?
It is going to be on wheels.
Day 1: We make our list of 25.
Day 2: Made sketch and finalized plans.
Day 3: Taped body and glued legs on.
Day 4: We cut and glued the head onto the body. We started lazar cutting the wheels. We also took pictures.
Day 5: We painted the dog and added ears. We also took pictures in the process.
Day 6: We put wheels on Sparky and finished final things. We also took pictures.
Day 7: We put descriptions on our website.
Day 8: We took video and put it on our website.
Sparky on a roll!
Reflection
Project Description
Our cardboard creation is a brown Wiener dog that is on wheels. His name is Sparky. His body is made of peanut cans, his head is made of a pop tart box, his legs are made of toilet paper rolls, his tail is made of brown pipe cleaners, and his eyes and nose are clay. We used acrylic paint to make it brown. For the wheels, we laser cut cardboard and then used wooden dowels to make them role.
Description Of The Standards Our Project Used
The standards that we used while building our project is Global Collaborator and Empowered Learner. We were Global Collaborators we designed our website. We were Empowered Learners when we focused while creating our project and while listening to instructions.
Something We Would Do Differently
Something we would do differently would be to make all the wheels touching the ground. It was hard to get all of the legs even. I think that it would roll better if all of the wheels touched the ground. I also think that the legs were all not the same length.
CTE and Career Connection
We think Engineering design, because engineering is basically creating and designing things and we designed a rolling dog. A career our project ties too is a Toy Robot Dog designer/engineer. We think this because they have to design a toy that looks like a robot and a dog, that can also roll. And our creation fits those standards.
Day 4: We laser cut the wheels.
Day 4: We added head to the body.
Day 5: We painted the dog.
Day 6: Finished Sparky!
What I Learned
We learned that when you want to make something roll, you have to make your hole bigger in the wheel than the axel so that it moves smoothly. We also learned that if you put a piece of cardboard on the end of your axels, the wheels don't fall off. Lastly, we learned that to cover up the duct tape, you need two coats of paint.
Challenges We Overcame
When the legs were two wide we figured out a way to make them skinnier. Another challenge was the head was way too big so we cut it to make it smaller. The last challenge was that we couldn't get the wooden dowels through the wheels so we used scissors to make the holes bigger.
