Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
Myself
What materials will you need for your project?
I will need a Glowforge, a design that I will draw, and a computer.
What is your plan to create in this project?
I will cut out a design with the Glowforge and assemble it.
What unique qualities will your project have?
I will draw a bison that is my own original design that doesn't exist on the internet or anything.
Day 6: The Glowforge cutting out my design.
Day 6: The finished product!!
A Challenge I Overcame
One of the challenges I overcame was I started to make a design where it would use a lot less pieces but look more 3d. I decided not to do this because I was trying to make it with paper but it didn't really work. I should have tested it with cardboard and it would have worked a lot better.
Standards The Project Ties To
A standard the project ties to is innovative designer. Innovative designers are creative and make things using the design process. I am an innovative designer because I created and designed a 3d bison and used the design process.
Reflection
Description of Creation
I created a 3d bison. The first thing I did was I drew up a design and tested it out. Then, I traced out the border of my design on Illustrator. After that, I did a test run of my design on cardboard and put it together with hot glue. Last, I did my final run of my design on basswood and glued the pieces together.
CTE and Career Connections
The CTE that connects to my project is engineering design. I think this connects because I drew up a design, tested it out with paper and created a 3d animal. A career connection is 3d designer because 3d designers create 3d things and I created a 3d bison.
What I Learned
Something really cool that I learned was figuring out how to use Illustrator. The process of using Illustrator is drawing things using points and bending them so they work together. I have never done this before and when you use this platform, the lines on your drawings end up much smoother than it does with a normal sketch.
Things I Would Do Differently
One thing that I would do differently is I would attempt to do the other idea that I had for the 3d effect. I would use small discs and place them horizontally so that they attach each piece of the bison's body. I would also like to paint my design to look more like a bison.
