Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I'm working with Ayla.
What materials will you need for your project?
ipad, cardboard, markers, colored pencils, tape, and glue.
What is your plan to create in this project?
We are going to create a table tennis game board.
What unique qualities will your project have?
It will be able to entertain two people for a really long time.
Using cardboard, iMovie, iPads, hot glue, duct tape and tooth picks, I created a tennis/ping pong table. I wanted to make something fun that people could actually play. The project also seemed fairly simple because I'm very bad at drawing straight lines, and making rectangles seemed easiest.
During this process, I learned that even though there may be something that I want on the project the other person might not want it. I learned a lot about how to work with people and compromise. I also learned more things about the game of table tennis that I didn't know before.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to computational thinker because I had to build the table in a certain order. If I put the legs on before I made the table it wouldn't have worked so I had to do things in a certain order to make sure everything would be correct.
A challenge I overcame on this project was doing what other people wanted with the project. I was able to do it by figuring out that it really didn't matter that much. Some of their ideas ended up working better in the long run so it was a good decision either way.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the way we made the table legs. The reason why I would change it is because the table was a little unsteady. I would have put 6 legs instead of 5 legs if it were me.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the engineering design CTE program at Hastings High School. This is because I am using my brain and constructing ideas to design a tennis table. Then I will test my ideas such as if the rackets actually work or not.
My project connects to careers in product engineering because you have to use your ideas and designs to create something new. You also have to test your ideas. We did this with our project when we tested the rackets to see if they would bounce the ping pong ball then made revisions to make our product better.
me and Ayla got into our group and started to draw up our tennis table.
started making the legs of the table.
finishing up the legs and starting to glue them on.
today we thought to make the table a little bit longer so we duct tape/hot glued more cardboard to the original table.
made the rackets and decided we needed to make another leg for support.
we made the net.
we finally finished our table!
