Using Tinkercad, CoSpaces, and a 3D printing machine, I designed and created a lockbox to keep my important items safe. I often lose things like my wallet and phone, so this project was a practical solution to help me stay organized and prevent misplacing essential belongings.
During this process, I learned how to find and create STL files, which are essential for 3D printing. I also gained experience in correctly grouping objects and preparing them for printing, ensuring the final product was functional and well-designed.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to global collaborator because my website will be shared with people around the world.
A challenge I overcame during this project was getting the elements to the correct length and angle. I addressed this by carefully adjusting the size of each component, increasing and decreasing measurements until everything fit perfectly.
If I had the chance to do this project again, I would change the placement of the lock on the box. The way I positioned it initially took up valuable space, making it difficult to store my important items.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the engineering and design CTE program at Hastings High School.
My project connects to careers in 3D CAD modeling because this field relies on 3D printing to create models of various objects. By using 3D printing in my project, I gained hands-on experience with the process, which is a key skill in 3D CAD modeling.
