Are you working by yourself or in a team?
team of 2
What materials will you need for your project?
IPad, 3D printer pieces, tools, instructions
What is your plan to create in this project?
Build a 3D printer
What unique qualities will your project have?
The ability to 3D print
Day 1: I have added a page to my website.
Day 2: I started on the build.
Day 3: I got a little farther and I added the piece that give the printer power
Day 4: I got the xbuddy box and the xbuddy board attached and one ziptie.
Day 5: I added the y axis motor.
Day 6: I put the X end motor and the X-end idler together by putting the ball bearings on.
Day 7: I attached the metal rods to one end then put 3 smaller ball bearings on the rods then closed it with the other x axis piece.
Day 8: Finished the X axis and moving on to the Z axis
Day 9: Finished the Z axis
Day 10: we put attached the wire guide to the mother baord
Day 11: We built the nextruder and connected it to the printing part.
Day 12: We connected wires to the love board and added covers to it so it looks clean.
Day 13: We added the the main controller screen and wirering.
Day 14: We attached wires and organized them.
Day 15: We got the heatbed out and started to assemble that.
Day 16: We put the wires from the heat bed into a sleeve and pout the cover on where the wires come out from the heatbed.
Day 17: We attached the Y-carriage to the base.
Day 18: We attached the Y belt to the Y Carriage.
Day 19: We added the Heatbed and the WIFI cover and the cover to the Xbuddy box.
Day 20: We finished the build completely and started on calibrations.
Using a 3D printer kit, iPad, and instructions, I built a 3D printer because it would be a nice challenge for me.
During this process, I learned how to build a 3D printer.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Knowledge Constructor because I followed instructions on how to build a 3D printer from a kit.
A challenge I overcame on this project was figuring out the wires. I was able to do it by looking at the pictures and slowing down.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the number of people to start the project with. The reason why I would change it is because the project would be done faster and more efficiently.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School.
My project connects to careers in Mechanical engineer because they design things then build them and they test them to see if they work. They get paid by the national average of $93,137 per year.
