8p5 cardboard car

Using Cardboard, I created a movable car because I wanted to do something fun while having a challenge. I chose this idea because I like cars and like the idea of creating my own.

During this process, I learned how to use tools that are used to cut, paint, and change the cardboard. To cut the cardboard I used plant cutters to easily cut through the cardboard. I used a small paint brush to paint around the car except the banana, and I folded the cardboard to get the shape I need.

The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Knowledge Constructor because I researched strategies and models of cars using the internet to pick the best one. We then set to work to create a creative artifact, a moving model car. We constructed a fun model car that can be used by others for many other projects.

A challenge I overcame on this project was shaping the cardboard the way we needed to get a perfect fit on all the sides of the car. I was able to do it by by measuring with another piece of cardboard to make a replica of the cardboard side. We had to use the same strategy on the wheels.

Given a chance to do this again, I would change the size of the project, I would make it bigger. I would also change some of the sizes of the cardboard to make them more even. The reason why I would change it is because having a bigger car would be super cool. I would love to have the time to create with more detail and use fun decals.

My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in engineering and designing new cars or car parts. Every large company hires people to draw up and create new ideas for the company. Mine could be creating new parts.
