By myself
What materials will you need for your project?
tinkercad
computer
3D printer
What is your plan to create in this project?
A bowl for my cat
What unique qualities will your project have?
it will have a plate around it to make sure she doesn't make a mess
Day 1 | Brainstormed ideas to make. Filled out planning questions
Day 2 | Began making bowl for Fitz
Day 3 | Added photos of bowl to website and then made bowl more accurate to cat
Day 4 | Today was the final day for designing so I made sure that my print was 3 inches
Day 5 | Submitted design
Day 6 | Typed my Reflection and turned project into Mr. Renner
First version of bowl ( Side )
Closer Version of prototype
Final version of bowl ( side view )
This is my printed design
Using tinkercad, I created a bowl for my cat Fitz because she eats canned cat food everyday and she always gets the food over the bowl. So I made a bowl for her with a lip around it so she doesn't spill meat bits onto the floor. I also made it customized to her so it would be special.
During this process, I learned that sometimes your first design isn't that good and that sometimes you just have to scrap it. The reason I scrapped my first design is because the fact that it was just too small and the lip wouldn't work. The lip was 2 inches wide when we could only have a 3 inch wide project so I had to find a way around that, thing is I didn't. So instead I started a brand new bowl and made it better by making the lip rounded and making it more stable by adding a support around it.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Computational Thinker because I am solving a specific problem with my model. The problem imp solving is the fact that my cat always gets the food outside of her bowl.
A challenge I overcame on this project was the modeling of my project. I was able to do it by looking at other students projects from the past. I looked at the 8th graders project and went through their daily log. I also looked up tutorials on YouTube to help with my modeling.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the ears of my bowl. The reason why I would change it is because it prints with supports I would also change the fact that my first design was so small. And after printing it I realized that I should have printed it on its side. Because of the fact that I wasted a lot of filament because of the support beams the project needed.
