Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working in a team or 3.
What materials will you need for your project?
In will need duck tape, scissors, yarn, cardboard and tinfoil.
What is your plan to create in this project?
I plan to create a mini basketball arcade with two hops and a slatted roll down for the balls.
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project will have two hoops and be decent sized not small.
I started planning my project coming up with good ideas
started making rims and back board and ball return
I added more support to the back board as well as making legs with good suport and a square to aim at on the back.
I made a different way to support the game as the legs did not work also a stop for the balls and a cage on the sides.
I fixed the back board prolem now it stays up. also aded more suport to set on tables.
we created strings in the back to keep the backboard up and level by connecting it to the bottom and making it tight.
Using cardboard, I created a basketball arcade game because I like the sport as well as play it and I thought it would be fun and creative to crate a different design as and arcade design made form cardboard. This is different as instead of legs we used a table top idea where is sits on top of a table with it still slanted and being easily playable.as well as having two hops so you and a friend can play games together or play at the same time.
During this process, I learned a bit of weight distribution as our first flaw was creating legs failed as the weight was to great which ended up collapsing and making it unplayable, resulting in our first re design. Also i learned a bit on how if i have strings/yarn pulling the backboard back when it leans forward can make it stay lateral or vertical and keep it nice and straight. Last thing is that cardboard and duck tape work really well if you reinforce it few time more then you think you would need.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative designer because we had limited resources that we were able to use which my group brainstormed and figured ways around our resources and making it work for the better. This project was eventually worked out and the main idea got out there which was a arcade basketball hoop with two hoops and cage to catch he balls after they are shot, as well as a small sloped center piece to guided the balls to the user. It also connects to Empowered learner as I progressed forward in a good pace to complete my project in a good time beofe the deadline. I also learned more about what would work next time if I ever do it again.
A challenge I overcame on this project was the legs not being stable enough or able to support the game and eventually collapsing and breaking, and another was the backboard falling in forward towards the user. I was able to fix this by, first i got rid of the legs idea and went to a more stable idea which was a table top idea which was a piece of cardboard to still slant the center piece but as well as making it stand on the table better. Secondly we used yarn using basic pulley systems and having yarn pull the back board back taped up which would pull it back making it just the perfect angle/vertical for the user enjoyment.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the length of it and make it slightly longer to make it more like a challenge and more fun as well. The reason why I would change it is because also to make it feel like the real experience of playing a real arcade machine. Also to make it a little harder to have it be a bit more of a challenge for the player to be more fun potentially for the user.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in construction or manufacturers. It ties to that as my project was made to be played by multiple people and have more then one so a manufacturer to create many as we tried multiple ideas as well constructed till one was created correctly ad well.
