planning questions
For this drone project i will be working with two friends of mine Chloe and Macy, for this projects i will need a computer, a drone, and a remote to control the drone. I am planning on creating a drone that follows me when I break into the milk machine. A few unique quality that my project will have is that while we are using a drone we are not just using it for fun but to catch a crime, we are using the drone to catch me breaking into the milk machine.
On the first day that i was hear i had to get starting on my website and thgen help chloe and macy with the drone chloe had to finish settting up the drone while i finished my website.
I finished my website and now i have to help Chloe record and also she's making me be the criminal. After we ran a practice run a we figured out how to use it time was up for the day
On day three we had to go out into the halls and finish are project, we did this by going out where we had more room and we recorded me breaking into the milk machine After that we uploaded the video to my drive and we finished are project.
Drone video
Using the CoDrone and the Ipad, I created a crime catching-burglar chasing drone video because it sounded like fun project, one that me and Chloe would be able to agree on- even if I wasn't there at the time. It sounded like a fun and very interactive project, including multiple types of materials. My instructions sounded easy enough, as my job was to record and act out the burglar, and if course, review the code and help Chloe in testing. I believe that she had a very good idea, whether I'll admit that to her or not is up to me of course.
During this process, I learned how to code a drone and look it over for bugs, flying a drone for testing's, and I learned some key details in acting preforming as a burglar. All of these things I learned can help me in another career past school, and of course can help me in future projects. I think I had the most fun time testing the drone and flying it, although the controls ill admit, where quite odd. Chloe obviously helped me and aided me in this as well. I'd say the main thing I learned was how to act and preform during a recording while managing technology, which is honestly hard for me.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Computational Thinker because using computational tools, we coded a drone to preform tasks and move, sound, etc. All in certain ways. Coding a drone is much like coding a computer, as they both carry the same fundamentals. I'd say the difference is that when coding on a computer, you're usually never using block coding. Either way, this would've never happened without the fundamental computational skills I had to learn during this project.
A challenge I overcame on this project was learning how to fly the drone and be okay with the embarrassment of acting on recording. I was able to do it by listening to Chloe as she explained it, and testing it out myself, practice usually makes perfect and in this case I'd say that's true. We did have some failed attempts here and there but we still made it work in the end, which I am grateful for. As for handling the embarrassment, I had to push myself into doing it, as non one else would. I tried having Chloe do it, but she wasn't much better than me. So, in the end I forced myself to do it and just had to trust the product that'd come out of my efforts.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the act we played. The reason why I would change it is because I really didn't like that the pressure of being the "star of the show" was on me. I'm not good att acting, and that thing they call stage fright? I most likely have it. The act was quick of course, but yes, if given the chance to change it I would've given the role ton Chloe or someone else in our team.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the computer programming CTE program at Hastings High School.
My project connects to careers in photography and some time in movie creating because when they create a movie thy have to get shot from up above and the only way to get that is to fly a drone into the sky, and for photography you can get a few landscape pictures from the sky as well.
