Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
by myself
What materials will you need for your project?
I will need the 3d printer
What is your plan to create in this project?
I plan to create a key clicker
What unique qualities will your project have?
I will be making something functional/with mobility using the 3d printer
Day 1: I am planning what project I want to do
Day 2: I made a rough draft
Day3: I changed my plan completely and started to make a keyboard
Day 4:Today I added the keycaps
Day 5: I added the borders to every key cap and added letter to the keys aswell and started 3D printing
Day 6: My project finsihed 3d printing
Using tinker cad, youtube and my ipad I created key board letters. I wanted to create a something functional with the 3d printer. That would actually be able to move, and for that to happen I had to come up with something that would have that mobility, and I chose a fidget. I chose this specific fidget because it's lightweight and have a simple design but still hard enough to challenge myself and learn something new.
During this process, I learned many cool shortcuts on tinker cad. For example if I wanted to align multiple shapes, I would drag my mouse over the shapes and press L, and select how I would want them aligned. This tool made it very easy to straighten up my designs perfectly. I also learned an easier way to copy and paste something. For example I would press ctrl d and an exact duplicate.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to being a knowledge constructor. It connects to being a knowledge constructor because I am actively building and understanding my work through design and experimentation. My project also ties to being an Innovative designer. I am being an innovative designer because I designing and prototyping.
A challenge I overcame on this project was getting the tiny micro pieces out of the key caps. I had spent about 20 minutes trying to get it out. I used toothpicks, dental flossers, the smallest pliers in the room, and it wouldn't budge. All it would do was put a little dent in it. I was so confused on why it wasn't coming out, I had searched multiple ways and tried most of them and it still wouldn't get out. By this time it was about 4:00 after school and my brother asked if he could try so I gave it to him and he did it in two seconds. He went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife, and it slipped right out.
Given a chance to do this again, I would add fourth key. I would add a fourth key because I feel it would be more comfortable, for my pinky to rest instead of being in the air. I would also remove the letter and try to find a way to sort of round the surface. of the key cap. I would do this just for a more relaxed feel because the letters are kind of rough on my finger tips.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering design CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects to the Engineering Design program because I am designing solutions or products that meet my expectations. My project also connects to the Computer Programming program. It connects because I am focusing on engineering digitally.
My project connects to careers in design and art. So careers like industrial/product designers, fashion/jewelry designers. The reason is connects to these careers is for jewelry. I'll need to be able to use 3D printing to create intricate and customized light weight designs. My project also connects to being a 3D printing technician. I'll need to able to run printers and understand how they work to work in this industry.
