Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
By myself
What materials will you need for your project?
Cardboard, Hot glue
What is your plan to create in this project?
I plan to create a functional vending machine
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project will be creative and have a unique design
Day 1: I didn't have a lot of time today so I thought about my ideas
Day 2: i designed and figured out the measurements for my project
Day 3: I cut out all of my pieces
Day 4: i made the turning dispenser
Day 5: I cut out the front of the vending machine
Day 6: I glued the ramps and one of the sides
My final project
This my my vending machine! I didn't have any candy or anything so I used cardboard pieces instead.
Using cardboard, hot glue, and scissors, I created a vending machine/dispenser. The reason I chose this for my project was because I don't really have much experience with cardboard so I wanted a fun but still challenging project. I also wanted something functional that I could use in the future for anything.
During this process, I learned certain ways to bend and smooth out the cardboard. For example, if I wanted to make something circular I would peel off a side/layer of the cardboard to get it to bend. Also if I wanted the cardboard to have a smoother edge I would duct tape the edge. As you can see on the hole in the 5th work day.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative designer. I specifically chose Innovative designer because I am prototyping and designing. I am also being an empowered learner because I am taking an active roll in what I am doing.
A challenge I overcame on this project was rounding the cardboard. It was a challenge because the cardboard wouldn't round as much as I liked it too. I overcame this problem by researching many ways to bend cardboard. I had to re-do the dispenser a few times.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the dispenser mechanism.I chose the the way the items dispense because right now when I do it multiple come out at a time. So I would find a way to make it only dispense one item at a time. I would've also used a toilet paper roll instead of rolling up cardboard just to get it smoother and it would look nicer. I would also put plastic wrap on the big opening to make the project look nicer.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the construction trades CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects to the Construction Trades because I am doing hands on projects. My project also ties to the Engineering design. It connects to the Engineering design program because researching my project, and making physical protypes.
My project connects to careers in architecture, packaging design, engineering, and prototyping. It connects with architecture because I am making models and structures. It connects with packaging design and engineering because I am designing structural products. Finally it connects with prototyping because industrial designers use cardboard for low cost models of products.
