Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working by myself.
What materials will you need for your project?
I will need my computer, a book, and a ruler
What is your plan to create in this project?
I plan to create a book end
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project will have precise measurements and a special design
Day 1 measuring the size of book end
Day 2 This is my first deisgn of the book end
Day 3 I worked on another design which I thought would be better
Day 4: I made one more version. it might look the same but I used a different circle to make the rounded edges smoother. And just made the book end in general thicker
Day 5: I made a hole at the bottom because I intend to put something heavy inside
Day 6: Today I sent my design to the printer
Day 7: It fisnished printing! I had to take the inside filling out
This is my final project
Using Tinkercad, I created a book end because I wanted to experiment with 3D printing, while also having a useful product. It's useful because I do not have a bookshelf and I need a way to keep my books in line without damaging them. In result I made a modern looking book end to match my dresser.
During this process, I learned how to use Tinkercad. Tinkercad is a 3D printing design website, with many different building shapes, that can be used to create anything of your desire. It was really hard to use this tool because the shapes were really hard to measure because it was in millimeters, so I had to convert the millimeters into centimeter.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to being an Empowered Learner. It ties to being an Empowered Learner because I am taking an active ownership of my education. My project also ties into being a Computational Thinker. I say this because I am solving problems by using computers. I am designing my solution digitally.
A challenge I overcame on this project was getting the exact measurements of what I wanted my project to be. I was able to do it by measuring my book and looking at other measurements of a similar design. Another challenge was actually trying to use the website Tinkercad and figuring out how to send my final project to be printed. I overcame this by searching videos on YouTube learning how to use this website.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the design of the bookend. The reason why I would change the design because I wanted it to be a little more unique. I think the design is not very creative, I searched up designs and chose one of the first ones I saw. So I wasn't that original.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering design CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects to the Engineering Design program because I am designing solutions or products that meet my expectations. My project also connects to the Computer Programming program. It connects because I am focusing on engineering digitally.
My project connects to careers in design and art. So careers like industrial/product designers, fashion/jewelry designers. The reason is connects to these careers is for jewelry I'll need to be able to use 3D printing to create intricate and customized light weight designs. My project also connects to being a 3D printing technician. I'll need to able to run printers and understand how they work.
