Using Tinker cad and the classroom 3D printers , I created a pencil holder. This is not like other pencil holders. I created small icons or "figurines" that can be put on the pencil holder like a decoration. I created this because we were asked to create an item to be sold at the new HHS Saxonden!
During this process, I learned how to take images from google and 3D print them. I had to find the image on google and then download it on to my computer. I then had to use an image converter so that the image could be imported to tinkercad. After getting the image onto tinkercad, I had to size and get the measurements right and then I was all set.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative designer. _ My project ties to this because I had to use different technologies than I use every day. I don't 100% know how to use the 3D printer because I don't use it a lot. So, I had to think outside of the box as I use this.
A challenge I overcame on this project was the making of the figurines. I had to size them right and make sure they would print correctly. I had to place a block on the back of the figurine so that all of the words and images would connect.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the shape of the pencil holder. The reason why I would change it is because it is kind of boring and plain. Next time I could make it a fun shape or do something different with it.
This project connect to careers in engineering. I say this because, I could design things and then print them anad sell them. Also, entrepreneurship. I say this because, I could sell the things to schools or restaurants and make money easily.
