Success Skills for Technology

Course Introduction:

This course is designed to ensure that all students have an understanding of the technology knowledge needed to be a 21 century learner. Our primary instructional tool will be the 21Things4Students website https://www.remc.org/21Things4Students/. We will focus things 4, 5, 6, and 7. Student will also spend time working on their typing skill using the website https://www.typing.com/. According to the standards a 6th grade student should be able to type a minimum of three pages in a single sitting. Our Goal is type at a speed of 30 words per minute.

Course Procedures:

All units will start with Google Classroom. Through Google Classrooms, students will receive directions on what they need to work on. They will also receive an outline copy of class notes that they will fill in.

From each "quest" you will copy-paste the “Key Vocabulary”
For each "quest" you will attach or link anything you were asked to make to Google Classroom
You will include any note on concepts or skills you learned during the "quest" in your key concepts.
You will be able to use your notes on the test so make sure they are detailed.

At the end of the unit, students will take a test on that material. If a student does not do as well as they would like on the test, there is a retake procedure:

1. The new score will replace the old score.

2. I will need to see the key concepts in the students' notes.

3. Students will handwrite the key vocabulary

4. Students will be able to tell me what they did to study.

5. When steps 1-4 are done I will email the student a new link to a new test.

I do not release any of the questions from the test. I would encourage your students to read the "I Can Statements" for each quest and see if they can tell you about them as part of the studying process.

W.6.6.- Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others: demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a minimum of three pages in a single sitting.

Focus 2 - Google Basics:

Students will learn about Gmail, Google Classroom, and other Google Products. This Unit does not have test but has points for showing knowledge about the products.

Focus 7 - STEAM Project:

Depending on the time we have at the end of the quarter student will have an opportunity to complete a STEAM Project(s). These will look more like the Innovation and Design Class.
