HMS MI-Trades was a partnership between the MI-Steam Network, our community, and our students. Our middle school students built: Duck Boxes and Playhouses. Individual(s) from the trades worked with our students/campers from Saw Dust Express Sawmill, Dewey's Auto Body, Pro Auto Service, Burkey Auto Glass, Welton's Heating and Cooling, Hastings City Garage, the Hub of Barry County,   Waste Management, and Affordable Metal Roofing.Â
Our middle school students learned from professionals in the field. They learned how to get started in the field, and the Certifications or licensing they need to have. We also learned about the investments in skill-specific tools.Â
Students learned mathematical concepts utilized in each trade. Including the metric system with automotive, weights and volumes in waste management, pitch and area in roofing, as well as many other skills. They also practiced their understanding of measurement and fractions as we built the bat boxes and playhouses.Â
