North Carolina Standard Course of Study

Goal 16: To understand the structure, function and pathology of the urinary system.

• 16.1 The student will be able to list the major functions of the urinary system.

• 16.2 The student will be able to identify through diagram, dissection or model, the major organs of the urinary system.

• 16.3 The student will be able to label a nephron and describe how it functions.

• 16.4 The student will demonstrate an understanding of the cellular and physiological aspects of the urinary system including the forces and processes that result in blood filtration.

• 16.5 The student will be able to describe the regulation of the urinary system and the influence of the urinary system on blood volume and pressure.

• 16.6 The student will show an understanding of the effects of hereditary and environmental factors, as well as, aging on the urinary system.

• 16.7 The student will be able to identify the causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of major diseases of the urinary system.
