1ST THING: This task is the "first thing" you do when you enter the lab, sit down, and log in to your iMac.
AUDIENCE ROWS: Walk your chair to rows in front of the board (usually about 4-5 rows)
DS DEMEANOR: "Demeanor" means your outward behavior. When you arrive to class, sit down, log in, navigate to the DS Site and do your 1st Thing. There will be other types of demeanor, depending on what the task is.
MEETING OF THE MINDS: Walk your chair to the middle of the lab to form a discussion circle. (i.e.: brainstorming; sharing ideas for films; feedback and critique)
PORTAPORTAL: The link is on the homepage. There is a "Browse" category which is one of your student choices.
DS HALL PASS: When filming away from the lab or our immediate hallway, take a DS Hall Pass (one per group) and it will serve as your permission to be in the hallway. Remember to bring it back when you return to the lab.
IMOVIE & WEVIDEO: DSers use both of these video editors. iMovie is loaded on the iMacs; WeVideo is web-based and can be accessed from any device.
PASSES: As long as Mrs. Wilson is not teaching and a classmate is not presenting, you may ask for a restroom or water fountain pass (orange building pass written by the teacher). You may also ask for a pass to guidance or the clinic, if needed.
SILENT STUDIO: When we are podcasting or vodcasting, every 3rd or 4th student will be in a recording session. The students who are NOT speaking need to use their headset to listen to music or movies on the DS Gallery. Everyone will be as silent as possible: minimize chair noise; turn handle when opening/closing the door; no talking; do not distract the performing students in any way (i.e.: staring, making distracting noises, photo bombing)
SOCRATIC CIRCLES: Students sit in two concentric circles: the inner circle brainstorms in a timed session led by Mrs. Wilson; the outer circle records "creative" responses. After inner circle students have had three chances to respond, outer circle students will share the answers they recorded. Circles switch places after each round. Topics are given by Mrs. Wilson; participation scores are given.
STUDENT CHOICE: There are just over a dozen choices you can make when you are done with a task, waiting to film, or doing "1st Thing." They are listed on the landing page.
VOICE OVER: Silent Studio rules apply when students are recording audio.
