As we are starting the second month of school, I encourage you to do a self-check. Are you okay? Are you still running on beginning of the year adrenaline, or have you settled in to your routine? It is important to take care of YOU and if you aren't okay, that's ok! We are here to help, I am here to help! Just let me know what you need!
I am sure by now you would agree that the "Honeymoon Stage" is over and all the kiddos are accepting their new reality...school is in session and it's not going away! Please be mindful of student behaviors and how we are handling them. Communication to the families is KEY! Beth and I are certainly here to help and will address any need you have, but be mindful that unless it is imminent harm to self or others, it will likely start with you first. If you have questions about discipline write-ups or anything that goes along with student discipline, please reach out. Consistency is also key! HERE is the PBIS school-wide folder with LOTS of resources for you to utilize as you are creating a positive behavior intervention system in your classroom.
Please continue to think about how you are implementing the district's Vital Behavior #6- "When I teach a lesson, I use student discourse strategies requiring all students to participate in student-to-student academic talk." . We will continue to model strategies for you and I hope you will play around with the Vital Behavior Tootlkit on the ETRC as well. The walkthrough tool is a good resource for you to use as you are planning and thinking about your lessons and whether or not they meet expectations.
We will begin TKES walkthroughs soon! Thank you in advance for welcoming us in to your classrooms! We are excited to see all of the amazing things your students are achieving!
Thank you for all you do! 🫶
**We are always excited to recognize PAWSitive Office Referrals! We haven't posted any of the photos yet because we weren't totally sure if ALL students have photo permission. If you know a child DOES NOT have permission, please let us know.**

Regular Newsletters and Updates — Share regular school newsletters and updates that notify guardians of happenings in school — upcoming events, the latest buzz, and any important announcements. Pictures of their students engaging in school are ALWAYS a hit!
Digital Family Engagement Platforms — Make use of digital communication through email and/or Parent Square. Reach out to busy parents who may find it challenging to physically attend school events through these digital tools. Parent Square is a fantastic digital platform that can help families get involved with their child’s learning through frequent communication from you.

UFLI encourages and intends continuous blending or "connected phonation". The front matter or the TE explains this as such....
Be sure to use connected phonation (i.e., /ssssaaaaat/), rather than segmented phonation (i.e., /s/+/a/+/t/). Connected phonation promotes faster growth in blending skills. I've placed a handout on this in your box :)
Each Benchmark magazine is FULL of images that bring opportunity for discourse. Try using See, Think, Wonder strategy. Using images allows access for all students.

November 13: Bonnie Clark Author Visit
From Media Specialist, Allyson
TrustED Apps: Please remember, before you have students add any apps to their LP it needs to be on the HallCo Approved list in TrustED Apps. If it has not been vetted and approved talk to Allie about submitting a vetting form to have it reviewed. Parents need to be confindent that anything we place on LP has been approved by the county and is safe for their children to use. There are lots of apps available through the Classlink/LP platform and they can be added to a LP dashboard, but they are not all approved by HallCo to be used in our classrooms.

ESOL Services are in full swing!
Here are how are numbers are looking this year:
Kinder: 10
First: 10
Second: 11
Third: 13
Fourth: 13
Fifth: 11
*Benchmark Vocabulary cards have been delivered!
K-2: they are with your grade chair since our ESOL Students are spread out across the classes.
3-5: I gave them to the homeroom teacher with the most ESOL students, since those classes are more grouped.
One idea is to bring the cards to grade level planning so that the whole team can see the cards for the upcoming lessons and decide how/who wants to use them. If you want more printed they are digitally located on ETRC (If you can't find them let me know and I will show you!)
