Week one! Wow, and just like that, we are back as if we never left. I want to say thank you for all that you have done to get prepared both mentally and physically for our Wildcats. We have a lot of work to do and you have hit the ground running. Please let us know how we can support you as we get the ball rolling!
We are excited to announce that we will be adding a NEW Kindergarten class! We do not yet know the teacher, but we have already notified families of the change and will be starting the class TODAY! Mrs. Johnson will be in the classroom until the new teacher arrives. Thank you, Kindergarten teachers, for working so quickly to make this transition seamless.
Please mark your calendar for our first 🔥fire drill🔥 on Thursday, August 13th at 9:15. It is really important that you know where you class goes and that you go over your fire drill procedures with them. We will do these drills each month and will try and do them at various times so that you are prepared for a variety of situations. We will also be having an 🚑AED drill🚑 on Friday morning. This will be for anyone on the Heart Smart Team. Remember that the "dummy" will be somewhere in the building and once it is found, the team will jump in to action! See Nurse Deb if you have questions prior to the drill.
I will work on getting the other drills on the Master calendar this week. The times may be TBD as we sometimes don't know when they will be. Be on the lookout for those dates.
I know that everyone is still trying to get to know your students and your schedule, but PLEASE try and adhere to the schedule as closely as posisible. We do not have any time to waste. Every minute counts and it is critical to get started on the right foot and hold ourselves accountable for instructional minutes. ⏰Time⏰ is finite and it must be used wisely!
Reach out if I can help in any way! 🩵
Sunshine Bylaws 26 (Stay Tuned for update)
Welcome back! I am so thankful to be back with each of you for the 2026-27 school year. We are already off to a great start because of all the work you are doing! Please double-check your math rosters (grade book and non-grade book) to ensure you have the correct students attached to you. Let me know ASAP if students need to be moved.
We will begin giving out yellow tickets at lunch on Monday, August 17th. These are for students who have shown the PAWS of Lanier; please give them a DOJO point for each ticket they have.
All homeroom teachers will meet with me in the PL room on Thursday, August 13th, during your planning to create MAP sessions. Bring your accommodations spreadsheet with your additions/edits. They were given to your grade chair at the Leadership meeting last week.
The BOY Checklist is due on Friday, August 28th. There is a yellow folder on my desk to place your completed checklist. Be sure to look at the Endorsement Document and let me know if there are any changes, and your years of experience.
HCSD Compliance Modules are to be completed by August 31st. Once you have completed all the modules linked here, sign off on the sheet on my office door.
As you begin to plan your field trips, keep Elachee in mind. The school district pays for two grade levels per school to attend each year. Historically, it has been 2nd and 4th. They will continue to have priority should they choose to attend. Here is the link to the field trip options they offer. Many of the options are for them to come to the school (ex: Star Lab 4th grade). Please complete this form with your field trip ideas here by August 28th.
Let's teach together! Plan, Co-teach, Reflect, Experiment, SIGN UP! The appointments are in 20 minute increments but you can sign up for multiple. You might not even know what you would like to do but just go ahead and sign up and we can chat. SIGN UP HERE!
Set routines for student-to-student discourse NOW. Try using questions/prompts that are familiar. Linked here is the 4 corners strategy we learned last year that I think would be a good one to do now and use the rest of the year!

Yay! So happy to be back at it with you guys.
Sign up for my Intro Lessons here! I keep pretty much the same intro lessons to be able to tell our new students what the old students know and to refresh everyone's memory!
Backpack Love
We will continue with Backpack Love as we did last year. I will have a list of students who receive BPL as it finalizes. Like last year, the bags will have tags with their name and Homeroom teacher's name. *If a student has an older sibling, the bag goes to them.
Chromebook Orientations: August 10-14
Library Orientations: August 17-21
Book Fair: August 25-28
From Media Specialist, Allyson
Welcome Back! This week we will be working on getting Chromebooks into rooms and students' hands. We appreciate your patience as we verify rosters, change passwords, and get everyone logged in for the first time. Each K-4th grade homeroom has 20 chargers checked out to the classroom. These chargers are ziptied and labeled for a specific cabinet. The intention is for them to stay in the cabinets and hopefully keep chargers from being damaged and your Chromebook Cabinets tidy. If we need to send home chargers for 3rd-4th at any point in the school year we have another set of chargers checked out to each student.
Chromebook Orientation days: 5th: Monday, 4th: Tuesday, 3rd: Wednesday, 1st: Thursday, Kinder: Friday
Next week is Library Orientation week. We will review library procedures and get everyone started checking out books. I'm looking forward to meeting all of our new Wildcats!
August 25-28 is Book Fair shopping for students. I will send the schedule out next week for you to sign up for two times for you your class to visit the Fair. We will have a teacher preview on Monday, August 24, as long as the fair is delivered in time to get it set up for that afternoon!
Happy first full week! I've been going through class rosters to make sure we've identified all of our ESOL students. If you have any questions about any of your students, please don't hesitate to reach out! I'm always happy to do the research and help make sure every student is getting the support they need.
I'll be stopping by next week to give each Grade Lead the county-provided, laminated Benchmark Vocabulary Cards. I'm also including a link that shows how to find the digital versions in ETRC—just click here.
I'm looking forward to a great year supporting our multilingual learners together!
