Our Parent/Student Handbook is online this year.  You can access the handbook by clicking on this link.

A Word from Mrs. Bright

It is hard to believe that we are entering the last month of this school year.  The month of May is always busy with testing, Field Day, End of Year Parties, and the 5th Grade Awards Day.  This year, May is no different.  Please check the Dates to Remember section for all of the things happening this month at FBES.

As we wind down the school year, FBES wants to recognize several staff members who are retiring at the end of this school year.  We appreciate their devotion to our children and to this profession. Congratulations to:

If you are visiting FBES anytime, please stop by the Lost and Found area to check for any clothing items your child(ren) may have lost.  Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of the year.  Lost and Found is located outside our cafeteria (near the doors the students exit the cafeteria).

We will be sponsoring another Frozen Frenzee day on Thursday, May 16 (Field Day).  Students can bring $3.00 to school to purchase a Frozen Frenzee treat. Money will be turned in to the child's homeroom teacher in the morning before school starts.  The treats will be picked when students eat their lunch.

Field Day is coming soon (Thursday, May 16).  Parents are invited to help Coach Kelly with Field Day.  If you want to volunteer to work one of the stations, you MUST  complete the Volunteer Application Process and be approved prior to Field Day.  All volunteers must complete the two-step volunteer approval process in order to volunteer at FBES.  This process includes a questionnaire and training modules.  Both of these steps must be completed before you can help with field day.  This process is to keep our students safe while they are at FBES.  The details about volunteering  can be found at this link.  Please allow two weeks for the approval email to be sent to you after you have complete the application process. The video at this LINK can also help you with this process. There is additional information about field day volunteers further down the newsletter.

The field day schedule is as follows:  K, 2nd, and 4th grade events will be from 8:30-10:45.  1st, 3rd, and 5th grade events will take place from 11:45-2:00.   If you plan to attend Field Day, please bring your ID and sign in at the office.  The rain date for Field Day is Monday, May 20. Field Day visitors and volunteers will have to use the gym restrooms if necessary.

Our yearbooks have arrived and will be distributed to students on Tuesday, May 14th.  We have a few extra yearbooks that will be sold on Thursday, May 16th for $30.00-CASH ONLY.  The yearbooks will be sold on a first come first serve basis.

End of Grade testing takes place next week (May 6-13) for our third, fourth, and fifth grade students.  Please help your student do their best on the test by having them at school on time each day (testing begins by 8:15 each day), by making sure they have a good night's sleep, and ensuring they eat a healthy breakfast.  Encourage your child to do their very best and to take their time on this test.  Our students have learned so much this year and we want them to show all that they have learned.  We believe our students will work hard to do their best.  Due to testing, we are NOT allowing lunch visitors during this week due to the testing schedule.  We appreciate your understanding of this change.  Lunch visitors will resume on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

News from the Learning Commons:  as the end of this year is quickly approaching, we want to let you know that all student library books are due on Friday, May 10th.  Please keep an eye out for our summer reading program information coming soon.  Reading is not only fun but will help set your student up to thrive for next school year!

Our fifth grade graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, May 24th in our gym. We will have a ceremony for Ms. Armand's and Mrs. Black's classes at 9:00 and another ceremony for Mrs. Shumake's and Ms. Villegas' classes at 10:15.  We are asking parents who attend to enter through the gym doors.  There are no limits on the number of guests that can attend for each student.  We just ask that parents complete the Google Form to indicate if their fifth grade student will be checking out afterwards and who will check the student out.  The form has already been emailed to parents. Please email your child's teacher if you have questions about fifth grade graduation.

Report Cards will be sent home on the last day of school, May 24th.  Please make sure any money that is owed to the school is sent in prior to report cards being released.  These monies owed could include money for Chromebook repairs, lunch money, and lost/damaged library books.  Report cards will be held for students who owe money to the school.

On Tuesday, May 21, the gym at FBES will be used as a polling place for the General Primary/Non Partisan Election. Please anticipate heavier than normal traffic on our campus on this day.

Thank you for your support of our school!

Amy Bright

Counselor's Corner

If you would like a copy of any of the tools below, please reach out to Wendy Trinh, School Counselor. Wendy.Trinh@hallco.org

Regulation Railroad

The Regulation Railroad is taught through our Tier 1 Sources of Strength lessons. This tool helps students work through their emotions.

Feelings Wheel

Simply naming our emotions helps the amygdala part of the brain regulate. This also puts the thinking / more rational brain back in charge.

Five Finger Breathing

This calm down strategy was taught by Ms. Trinh through classroom guidance. This is a great tool to use in part 4 of the Regulation Railroad.

DAISY Award

This year, we are giving our parents an opportunity to recognize staff members with our DAISY Award.  The DAISY Award can be given by parents to FBES Staff Members for being a Dedicated Adult Investing in Successful Youth.  It's as simple as clicking here and completing the form. Mrs. Bright will recognize the recipient each time the DAISY Award is submitted.  We can't wait to celebrate our wonderful staff for all they do for our students!

SY 24 School Meals Payment Information

The breakfast and lunch menus can be found here. Breakfast is $1.10 for students and lunch is $1.95 each day.  Lunch visitors can purchase a meal for $4.50 and must be paid in cash.

You can use MyPayments Plus to pay for your child's school meals.  Meal payments can also be made via cash or check (made payable to the school) by sending the payment to school with your child in an envelope labeled with your child's name, grade, teacher, and what the money is for (lunch money). Students can only charge up to $10.00 at a time.  Items such as extra milks can not be charged.
