A word from Mrs. Bright
Welcome back to school for the 2023-2024 school year! It was a pleasure to see everyone at Open House. Our first week of school has been wonderful, and we appreciate everyone's support as we work through learning our procedures and routines of the school.
Our teachers and students are working on building relationships with one another as well as learning classroom procedures and routines. Our students are also learning about our TRIBE expectations (Thoughtful, Respectful, In Control, Being Responsible, Engaged) through classroom visits with Mrs. Bright and through classroom lessons. Students are given the opportunity to practice our TRIBE expectations as well so that we can have a safe and successful school year.
Chromebooks have been assigned to students and will remain at school.
Our morning car riders are learning the procedures for this very busy time of day at FBES. This video about our procedures was shared with families at Open House. If you haven't had a chance to watch it, please take a few minutes to do so. Remember, the double lanes are formed once you enter the parking lot at the car rider sign under the tree. One of our staff members is trying to direct traffic in this manner so please follow this lead. If we double all the way to Radford Road, we block traffic and folks can't exit the campus which leads to a traffic jam. Also, remember all students must come through the car rider line during morning drop off time. All parents should remain in their car and go through the car rider line. There will be no parking, walking students to the front door, or sending students across the parking lot/sidewalk/crosswalk for safety reasons. Please plan accordingly, and arrive early enough to go through the car-rider line. Our car rider line runs from 7:15 through 7:45 each morning. Students who arrive in their classrooms by 7:50 will be counted as tardy. Thank you in advance for your cooperation during morning arrivals.
Our school dismissal time will move to our normal time this week. We were loading buses and car riders early last week to give teachers and students time to find their buses/cars. Our normal dismissal time is 2:25 so please adjust your schedule for school bus drop offs and for the car rider line. If at any time this year, you need an additional car rider tag for afternoon dismissal, please come to the school office with your ID. Additional car rider tags are purchased for $1 per tag. The first two car rider tags per family are free. Car rider tags are available during the school day from 8:00-1:30 and from 2:45-3:30. Please make sure you notify your child's teacher of transportation changes. We must have a note from the parent in order to change a child's transportation. Without a note, your child will go home as usual.
If you haven't had a chance to complete the beginning of the year forms on Infinite Campus Parent Portal, please make sure you do that. Directions for setting up a Parent Portal account and how to sign forms can be found at this link. We also want to encourage all parents to complete any paper forms that were sent home and return them to your child's teacher. Thank you for your help with getting these forms completed.
All FBES students are taking their beginning of the year MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments this week. This assessment adjusts for students depending on their levels in language arts/reading and math. Please share these two facts at home with your child: 1) students need to try their best and give 100% effort; 2) students will not know every answer. The test is adaptive and responds to the answers given. Students should not stress about this assessment. Growth reports will be shared with parents during the school year. Click here to learn more about MAP: MAP Family Guide.
Lunch visits with students will resume the week of September 5th (after Labor Day). Lunchroom visitors will check in at the front office with their picture ID, sit on the stage in the cafeteria with their child during that lunch time, and should have their name on the child's white card in the front office. We ask that there are only two visitors per student per visit due to limited space on the stage. Outside food is not allowed in the cafeteria, and parents should refrain from taking pictures of other students with their phones.
Thank you for your support of our school!
Amy Bright

BUS safety
Now that our bus schedules are running on a more regular time schedule, please remember to follow these bus stop guidelines to keep everyone safe:
Morning Pick Bus Pick Up:
Parents need to wait with their children at the bus stop.
Students should arrive at the bus stop five minutes prior to the bus pick up time.
Remind students to stand at least five feet from the road while waiting for the bus.
Make sure the bus has come to a complete stop before loading the bus.
Afternoon Bus Drop Off:
Children under the age of 9 must have someone waiting for them at the bus stop or the bus driver will not let the student off of the bus.
Students should go straight home and not stop to check the mail or pick up dropped items.
