Tier 2 Response to Intervention Procedures for Speech ONLY Concerns: Articulation and Fluency
Step 1
Fill out Speech-Language Checklist in Infinite Campus. Email the SLP and ask him/her to review.
Step 2
The SLP reviews checklists and may complete a skilled observation (documented by B6 Specialist Observation Form). The SLP provides feedback on the language checklist, and emails the teacher with suggestions for moving forward, with suggestions for Tier 2 interventions, if needed. The SLP may suggest submitting for Tier 3 immediately, if indicated by severity of articulation or fluency problem.
Step 3
Send home Tier 2 Parent Letter. Upload dated copy to student’s RTI tab on Infinite Campus.
Step 4
Complete RTI T2 Vision/Hearing Screen Permission and screen hearing and vision.
Step 5
Hold first Tier 2 meeting. Create intervention plan with meeting minutes on Infinite Campus. Team will, with SLP assistance as needed:
identify areas of concern
establish baseline for targeted area
determine how to monitor progress
Record in meeting minutes that learning concerns are ruled out, with documentation of current academic present levels.
Step 6
The classroom teacher begins Tier 2 interventions for articulation or fluency.
Step 7
Team will meet every 4-6 weeks to review the progress monitoring data, discuss the student's progress toward the goal(s), and evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention(s). Document meeting minutes on the Meeting Minutes document in RTI Documents.
Step 8
Intervention plan must be modified if student doesn’t make adequate progress.
Step 9
If student is making progress, consult with SLP to determine whether or not the student's performance goal needs to be increased, if no changes need to be made, or if returning to Tier 1 is appropriate.
If insufficient progress is made, consult with SLP to determine if a Tier 3 referral is recommended, or if the modification of the intervention plan is adequate at this time.
