Please complete the following steps when a parent of a home or private school student makes a request for an assessment for special education. Note that some steps may occur simultaneously:
Step 1
Email Sherry Taylor, your School Psychologist, and Administrators to notify them of the request. In cases where a parent contacts Sherry Taylor directly, she will notify the school administrator and psychologist of the request.
Step 2
The school psychologist or administrator will arrange to meet with the parent within 10-school days. At the meeting, the student will be enrolled in the district. The school of enrollment will be responsible for submitting the case and holding the eligibility meeting.
If the student resides within the Hall County School District, the parent will be asked to enroll the child at their home school (the school the child would attend if he or she attended a Hall County public school).
If the student resides outside of the Hall County School District, the student is enrolled at the school in the district where the private school is located. For example, Lanier Christian Academy is in the Chestnut Mountain Elementary district. Therefore, these parent's enroll their child at Chestnut Mountain Elementary for the evaluation purposes.
In either case, this is a "soft enrollment" to create an Infinite Campus profile for the child and upload documentation that is necessary for the evaluation.
Step 3
Include a B4 parent/guardian permission for screening as part of the child's enrollment packet. Make arrangements with the school nurse to give the child a vision/hearing screening.
Step 4
The school data clerk will enter the student summary information to Infinite Campus. Private school/home school students are located under the All People tab. The RTI Coordinator will be responsible for uploading the B4 Form.
Step 5
Upon request from an administrator, Sherry Taylor will mail a packet to the student's address in Infinite Campus. The packet will gather background information about the student and include a parental consent to evaluate form. The packet also includes a self-stamped envelope for the parents to mail documents back to Sherry Taylor.
Step 6
After the child has passed the vision/hearing screening, have the nurse upload the screening to Infinite Campus under the Hearing/Vision tab.
Step 7
When the consent is returned to Sherry Taylor, she will notify all necessary parties via email, including the administrator, special education coordinator, lead special education teacher, school psychologist, speech/language pathologist, diagnostician, and school nurse. Upon receipt of this email, the diagnostician will contact the parent to schedule diagnostic testing.
Step 8
The special education eligibility team will pick up from here. All necessary evaluations will be completed during the 60-day timeline.
