Am I a Hackney care leaver?

Once you turn 18, you are no longer legally in care. However, although most young people leave care at 18, some may leave care before that.

You are a Hackney care leaver if you are aged 16 or over and have been looked after by Hackney for more than 13 weeks after your 14th birthday, including at least some time in care after your 16th birthday.

If you were looked after by Hackney immediately before someone was granted a Special Guardianship Order to look after you, you may also qualify for some advice and assistance from our Leaving Care Service if you are between 16-21, but not full Leaving Care rights.

If you are unclear about your right to access our Leaving Care Services, please call us to discuss on 0208 356 4603 or email leavingcareservice@hackney.gov.uk. You can also find out more about Leaving Care rights from the Coram Voice website.
