The English Department is thrilled to announce that our literary magazine, The Copper Quill, has achieved the designation of "Excellent" by the REALM program (Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines). The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) evaluates submissions annually and selects magazines "to publicly recognize excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing."
Writing about The Copper Quill, NCTE states that the "magazine is a fine example of this mission in action, and the REALM committee looks forward to seeing future publications from your school."
Congratulations to the student editors and contributors, as well as to the faculty advisors, Rick Kearns and Julie Shepard. In addition to publishing quality work, the magazine is devoted to equity in its practices, eschewing traditional positional hierarchies and operating under collaborative, community-based editing processes. We look forward to many years of success ahead!
