Banner One College Project Update

While the One College personnel reorganization became effective July 1, 2020, the resulting changes will be fully implemented in Banner and related systems effective July 1, 2021 for Fiscal Year 2022. Project work will continue post-Go Live to address enhancements, modifications, and new reporting needs once the new structure is fully in place. The project is expected to be completed by December 2021. Below are some highlights of recent work on this project:

  • The new Finance Chart of Accounts will be effective for Fiscal Year 2021-22. Currently, the project team is working to configure and test the Accounts Receivable Detail Codes and HR Positions in conjunction with the new Chart of Accounts for FY22.

  • Finance Approval Queues: The Office of Finance is working on building interim approval queues for FY 2020-21 using the existing chart of accounts, but following the new organizational structure. Implementation of the interim approval queues is targeted for August 2020. This is a labor intensive effort to support the new structure until the new chart of accounts is implemented.

The new Academic Schools will be incorporated into the course catalog in Banner effective for courses offered in the FY 2021-22 academic year. Currently, the project team is working to configure workforce development courses to prepare for advanced registrations with a target completion date of September 2020 with the remaining updates to the credit course catalog to be ready by March 2021.

Library Technical Services Spotlight

The Library Technical Services (LTS) team is part of the Enterprise Services department in the Office of Information Technology and Learning Experience. LTS is responsible for all technical support services, system administration, operation, management, installation, and implementation of HACC's Integrated Library Components (ILC) automated systems. This includes working closely with colleagues in the Learning Experience department to support access to all library resources. LTS supports the access to library systems and resources for all HACC staff and students, managing acquisitions of all materials requested by and in support of HACC’s academic departments.

Gloria Shutter, assistant director, leads a team of three system specialists who support acquisitions, electronic resources, and cataloging. Kim McGovern is the Acquisitions System Specialist responsible for the acquisition, processing, receiving of all formats of library materials and reconciling budgets. Kris Primm is the Library Electronic Resources Specialist responsible for the acquisition and management of print serials collection and electronic resources including periodical indices and aggregators, reference collections, and streaming video. She also negotiates license agreements and compiles/analyzes usage statistics for databases. Jonathan Clark is the Library Catalog System Specialist responsible for cataloging all formats of library materials including adding, updating, and deleting bibliographic and authority records. Jonathan is also responsible for the HACC Library InterLibrary Loan service.

The LTS team was part of the Library and Information Department in Academic Affairs but was moved to Enterprise Services as part of the One College reorganization. With this change, collaboration between the Librarians, Library Public Services, Library Technical Services and the new Learning Commons staff is necessary and must be continual for student success.

Most of the LTS team transitioned easily to the remote environment as there are few instances where face-to-face interactions are required. Cataloging physical materials and receiving print journals is on hold at this time. Current priority projects include transitioning print periodicals to electronic versions if available, working with the Learning Commons Technology Team to set up deployment/return of technology for students, and preparing/updating systems for the fall semester in the new Learning Commons structure.

Any questions about the Library Technical Services department may be addressed to Gloria Shutter, Assistant Director, Library Technical Services.

Learning Commons

HACC has prioritized the safety and health of our students, declaring that we will be continuing remote instruction and learning for the Fall 2020 semester; at the same time, we maintain our commitment to providing you with the support that will help you find success on your academic journey in both remote and online courses.

For this reason, HACC’s new Learning Commons is moving key services online to make them available even when Campuses are not. You can find a varied (and expanding!) set of resources at our website at http://hacc.edu/learningcommons, including information on setting up an appointment for tutoring, requesting research assistance, and contacting tech support - all of which bring the same great services you enjoyed on Campus to you, wherever you are.

We also have information on how to request the technology and internet access you need to complete your classes through HACC’s Technology and Internet Access Loan program. Our Learning Commons is dedicated to keeping you moving ahead despite these uncertain times. We hope you will visit our site, use our services, and perhaps leave us some feedback using the form there to help us continue to evolve to meet your needs. We are here for you!

Technology Upgrades for Communications Classrooms Underway

In anticipation of our eventual return to Campuses, the Learning Technologies team is commencing work on upgrades to specialized classrooms at multiple locations supporting Communications classes. This project, created alongside Academic Affairs and made possible through generous funding support by the HACC Foundation, will update the speech capture capabilities of these spaces to improve assessment of student learning outcomes. Ordering is underway this summer, with installation taking place throughout the Fall semester following appropriate social distancing and safety guidelines and processes.
