Dear Cornelia Cub Families,
We’re having a wonderful school year so far! Students are currently working with their teachers to set meaningful goals for the year. We encourage you to talk with your child about their goals and how they plan to achieve them.
Our focus areas include academics—specifically reading and math—attendance, and behavior. Students who meet their goals will be invited to a BIG celebration at the end of the semester!
Did you know that on the first Saturday of each month, there is a Free Food Giveaway here at CES? Thanks to First Presbyterian Church, food is distributed in the bus loading area starting at 8:00 a.m. and continues until all the food is gone.
Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Carrie Trotter

In counseling this month, students have been learning about how to handle teasing through the story Simon’s Hook. We practiced strategies like ignoring, walking away, using humor, and staying confident when someone tries to “hook” us with unkind words.
We also discussed the difference between teasing and bullying. Teasing can sometimes be playful, but it becomes hurtful when it’s mean-spirited or continues after someone asks it to stop. Bullying, on the other hand, is when someone is being mean on purpose, repeatedly, and there’s an imbalance of power. Our goal is to help students recognize the difference and feel equipped with tools to respond safely and respectfully.
Resources
There are lots of resources in our community to help families in need. On the first Saturday of every month, the First Presbyterian Church will be doing a food give away in the Cornelia Elementary School parking lot from 8:00 am until supplies last. The Torch Food Pantry located at 236 Level Grove Road, Cornelia is open Mondays and Saturdays from 10:00 am-12:00 pm and Wednesdays from 5:00-7:00 pm.
At school, we often have access to food, jackets, and counseling resources your student may need. You can reach out to me, Emily Morris, at 706-778-6526 ext. 1311 or emorris@habershamschools.com if your child is in need.
Do you have a young child who hasn't started school yet? Come and learn ways you can help your child prepare for school through play.
