Dear Cornelia Cub Families,
Happy New Year! This is a wonderful and busy time as we prepare for the second semester. Students and teachers will be working together to set new goals. At the end of each nine weeks, we will celebrate student success with our 3 Star Celebration. To attend, students must meet goals in three areas: attendance, behavior, and academics. Be sure to ask your student about the goals they are working toward.
We are also beginning ACCESS testing. ACCESS is a four-part English language proficiency assessment that measures students’ skills in Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Please encourage your English learner to do their best and show what they know. If you have any questions about ACCESS testing, feel free to contact Mixtly, our parent involvement coordinator, or your child’s ESOL teacher.
A quick reminder about winter clothing: Please make sure your child’s jackets, coats, and sweatshirts are clearly labeled with their name. Labeling items helps us return lost clothing to students quickly and keeps our lost and found from filling up. Thank you for your help with this!

January is Gifted Referral Month for Habersham County Schools. Individuals wishing to refer a student will need to complete a Gifted Program Referral Form and provide performance data along with samples of student work in support of the referral. A team of educators will review student data and referral information to determine if formal evaluation for gifted services is warranted.
The referral form, qualification requirements, and information regarding gifted services are available on the Gifted Program website. The website link is located under Departments on the Habersham County Schools website (www.habershamschools.com). Forms may also be requested by email at adsmith@habershamschools.com or by phone at 706-754-2110, Ext 128. Referral forms should be submitted to the child’s school or to the Gifted Program Coordinator. The deadline for referrals is January 30th.
If you would like to be a part of our school council or have suggestions, ideas, or comments, call our parent coordinator, Mixtly Sanchez, at 706-778-6526.

Career day is coming up on March 13, 2026! This is an amazing opportunity for Cornelia Cubs to learn about different jobs and opportunities that are available right here in Habersham County. It is our goal is for every student to walk away inspired—believing that big dreams and extraordinary careers are possible for them. If you are interested in possibly attending career day to do a presentation on the field you work in, please reach out to Emily Morris at 470-977-2698 or emorris@habershamschools.com.
Cornelia Cubs will be participating in the Monique Burr Foundation’s Child Safety Matters program this month. This age-appropriate, evidence-based program is designed to teach students important personal safety skills, including recognizing safe and unsafe situations, identifying trusted adults, and learning how to speak up if they ever feel uncomfortable or need help. The lessons are taught in a developmentally appropriate and supportive way, with a focus on empowerment and prevention.
We encourage families to continue these conversations at home and reinforce the importance of communication and trusted adults. If parents or guardians have any questions or would like additional information about the program or lessons, please feel free to contact the school counselor.
