The Guided Inquiry Design (GID) process has been adopted by Gulliver as the standard research methodology for students in grades K-11. This research framework is based on the work done by Leslie Maniotes and her team, and lays the foundation for all of our students to become information literate by having the skills necessary to locate, evaluate, and use information to drive their learning. The GID model consists of eight phases that guide both student and teacher through a process of inquiry where the learner's passion and interest is at the center of the guiding question.
Students in grades K-4 at Gulliver will participate in at least one unit of study each year where the GID framework has been embedded. In grades 5-11, students will have the opportunity to participate in a minimum of two units per academic year; one unit will take place in the science course, the other in the social sciences course they are taking within that given year.
Lower School teachers and teachers of science and social studies in Middle and Upper School, will receive training and coaching in the GID process to ensure that students receive consistent exposure to the GID research process through their time at Gulliver.
A member of our Information Specialist team will contact each new faculty member to schedule participation in the GID Institute.
New faculty can see units of study in Atlas, and department leads can provide information about the implementation of a GID unit. In addition, a Guided Inquiry Design web page has been created by the ETIS team to showcase GID unit projects that have been implemented.
